The only parameters given for this assignment were a short time-frame and some facet of the notion: "Read Watch Go Do." I quickly drafted up and issued a questionnaire that asked students (sophomore to senior) and faculty to list books that they considered essential to their personal practice without being directly associated to that specific field. The responses, which covered most of the fields of study offered at Maine College of Art, were compiled into a pamphlet—a reading list for an alternative curriculum that can be utilized by any creative regardless of their label or form of creation.
